Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was born on July 15, 1952 in Havana, Cuba. In 1972, Ros-Lehtinen received her Associate's degree in English from Miami-Dade Community College. In 1975, she earned her Bachelor's degree in English and Education from Florida International University. In 1986 Ros-Lehtinen returned to Florida International University to work on her Master's degree in Education. In 2004 she obtained her Doctorate in Education from the University of Miami - while serving in Congress. Ros-Lehtinen was a Member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1982-1986. She was a Member of the Florida Senate from 1986-1989. Ros-Lehtinen was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1989. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen currently serves as Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
