John Fleming, Jr. was born July 5, 1951, in Meridian, Mississippi. He attended college at the University of Mississippi in Oxford and medical school in Jackson. He entered the United States Navy to help fund his medical education. He was awarded his B.S. degree in 1973 and M.D. degree in 1976. After earning his medical degree, Fleming acted as chief resident in family medicine at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Camp Pendleton, California. After leaving the Navy he opened his own private practice. John Fleming was first elected to Congress in 2008.
