Former AG Heidi Heitkamp announced on November 8, 2011 that she would seek the Democrat endorsement for the open seat of retiring Democrat Senator Kent Conrad. She then won a close general election race in 2012 against Republican Rick Berg; this is her first re-elect try for the US Senate.   Previously, Heidi Heitkamp challenged current Republican Senator John Hoeven for the Governor’s office.   She lives in Mandan with her husband, Dr. Darwin Lange, a family practitioner, their golden retriever Copper, and their elderly tabby cat, Sport.  

 

Heidi Heitkamp and her husband have two grown children, Ali and Nathan.
