Joe Donnelly was born on September 29, 1955 in Queens, N.Y. He is married and has two children. He earned his B.A. in government from the University of Notre Dame in 1977 and his J.D. in 1981 from the University of Notre Dame in 1981. Joe Donnelly was elected to the U.S. House in 2006.

 

In 2012, Joe Donnelly defeated Richard Mourdock for the Senate, with Mourdock earlier knocking out longtime Sen. Richard Lugar in a primary.  He is up for re-election in 2018.
