Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito was born on November 26, 1953 in Glen Dale, West Virginia. In 1975, Shelley Capito received her Bachelor 's Degree in Zoology from Duke University. In 1976, She earned her M.Ed. in counselor education from the University of Virginia. Shelley Capito was a member of the West Virginia House of Representatives from 1997-2001. She was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2000. Congresswoman Capito serves on the House Financial Services Committee as the Senior Republican on the Subcommittee for Housing and Community Opportunity, where she worked across the aisle to stem the tide of home foreclosures. Shelley Capito also sits on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.
