Marcy Kaptur was born June 17, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio. Kaptur graduated from St. Ursula Academy in 1964. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968 and a Master's in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan in 1974. She did post-graduate study in urban planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981. Kaptur served on the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission from 1969 to 1975. She was elected to Congress 1982.

 

Marcy Kaptur defeated Rep. Dennis Kucinich, current District 10 Rep., and Graham Veysey in the Democratic primary for Ohio's 9th District. Marcy Kaptur now faces Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher (R) and Sean Stipe (L) in the November 6 general election.
