Rep. Alex Mooney [R, WV-2]
District 2, West Virginia

Alex Mooney is a resident of Jefferson County, West Virginia. Alex played football and rugby at Dartmouth College, where he graduated in 1993. He also served as the president of the Dartmouth Coalition for Life during his junior and senior years. Shortly after graduation, Alex served as an aide to western Maryland Congressman Roscoe Bartlett and as a legislative analyst for the House Republican Conference Committee under Congressman John Boehner (R-OH).

Mooney later left Capitol Hill to work for a small conservative public policy organization. After knocking on thousands of doors in Western Maryland, Alex defeated an incumbent in the Republican primary and went on to win the general election in 1998, becoming the youngest and only Hispanic member of the Maryland State Senate. He served there from 1999 to 2010. Alex received the National Hero of the Taxpayer Award in 2003 for consistently voting to protect hardworking taxpayers by cutting burdensome government regulations and red tape on our small businesses. Alex never voted for a tax increase during his twelve years as a state senator. In 2011, he was elected as the Maryland Chair of the Republican Party.

Alex Mooney and his wife, Dr. Grace Gonzalez Mooney, have two children, and decided to move across the Potomac River to raise their children in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Alex Mooney and Grace homeschool their two children and believe West Virginia is a great place to live and raise a family.
