John Yarmuth was born November 4, 1947. A Louisville native who graduated from Atherton High School in 1965, he went on to graduate from Yale University, majoring in American Studies. Prior to his election to Congress, Yarmuth was best known for founding the weekly paper, the Louisville Eccentric Observer in 1990 and for writing a progressive-oriented weekly political column that was featured on the first page of most issues. Rep. Yarmuth was first elected to Congress in 2006 and is Kentucky's first Jewish Congressman. John Yarmuth won his 2012 race 64 to 35% over Republican Brooks Wicker.
