Nancy Pelosi was born on March 26, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1962, Pelosi received a Bachelor of Arts and Political Science from Trinity College where she met her husband. Pelosi's father served in the United States Congress from Baltimore in 1939-1947 and Mayor of Baltimore. It is said she learned her political skills from him. Following in her dad's footsteps, her brother also served as Mayor of Baltimore. She served as the California Democratic Party Chairwoman from 1981-1983. Pelosi was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1987. She held a variety of House leadership positions prior to becoming the first female Speaker of the House and the female highest serving in the line of succession to the Presidency.
