Steny Hoyer was born June 14, 1939, in New York City. He graduated from Suitland High School in Suitland, Maryland. In 1963, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown Law School in 1966. In 1966, Steny Hoyer won a seat in the Maryland State Senate, representing Prince George's County, Maryland. In 1975, Hoyer was elected President of the Maryland State Senate, the youngest person to hold that position. Steny Hoyer was first elected to Congress in 1981.
