Tim Ryan was born July 16, 1973 in Niles, Ohio. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bowling Green State University in 1995.  In 2000 he earned a Juris Doctor degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire; from 2000 to 2002 he served in the Ohio State Senate. Timothy Ryan was elected to Congress in 2002, succeeding Rep. James Traficant.  In November 2016, Ryan launched an unsuccessful challenge to unseat Nancy Pelosi as leader of the House Democrats.

On April 4, 2019 Tim, Ryan announced his candidacy for President of the United States.  He withdrew from the race in October 2019.
