Chris Murphy was born on August 3, 1973 in White Plains. New York. In 1996 Murphy received his Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science. In 2002 he earned his law degree from the University of Connecticut. Murphy worked on the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission from 1997-1999. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1999-2003. Murphy was a Member of the Connecticut State Senate from 2003-2007. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2006, defeating 24-year incumbent Nancy Johnson. Chris Murphy won his Senate seat in 2012, defeating WWF exec Linda McMahon.
