John Thune received his undergraduate degree from Biola University and his MBA from the University of South Dakota. He is the former Congressional Staffer to U.S. Senator Jim Abnor and worked at the Small Business Administration under President Reagan. Thune served as the Executive Director of the Republican Party of South Dakota. In 1991 he was appointed South Dakota Rail Road Director and in 1993 the Executive Director of the South Dakota Municipal league. Thune ran and won his Congressional Seat in 1996. Senator John Thune made history by defeating Senate Leader, Tom Dascle, in 2004 for the U.S. Senate Seat.
