Mazie Hirono was born on November 3, 1974 in Fukushima, Japan. She resides in Honolulu with her husband and stepchild. She earned her B.A. in 1970 in psychology from the University of Hawaii and her J.D. from Georgetown University in 1978. Hirono served in the Hawaii House from 1981-1984 and was elected Lieutenant Governor from 1994-2002. Mazie was elected to the U.S. House in 2006, is currently serving her second term for the 2nd district. If elected to the Senate, Mazie Hirono would be the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate.
