Susan Collins graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1975 with a BA in Government. In 1994 she was the first woman to be nominated, by a major party, for Governor of Maine, although she lost in the general election. In 1996, Susan Collins was elected to the U.S. Senate, where she is the Chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
